Sanrio Puroland (サンリオピューロランド) is an indoor theme park located in Tama City, Tokyo, owned by the Sanrio company of the same name. The park opened on December 7, 1990, and has been visited by approximately 1.5 million Hello Kitty fans every year since then.

Parades and shows
Parades and shows take place daily at various times under the Wisdom Tree on the Wisdom Tree Stage on the first floor (the giant tree in the middle). Check the schedule to see what’s happening. I personally really enjoyed the Miracle Gift Parade and the Kawaii Kabuki Show at the Fairy Tale Theater!
Meet characters
At Sanrio Puroland, you can, of course, meet your favorite characters . Be it Cinnamoroll, Kuromi, My Melody, Pom Pom Purin, or, of course, Hello Kitty!
Not all characters can be met every day, so it’s best to check the schedule on the official website beforehand to see if your favorite character will be there on the day you visit.

Rides & Entertainment
There are two main rides at Sanrio Puroland: the Sanrio Character Boat Ride and My Melody Road . Both are slow-paced rides through the colorful world of Sanrio, making them perfect for small children. My Melody Road offers several photo opportunities during the ride. At the end of the ride, you can purchase and print these for 1,000 yen.
There’s also Lady Kitty’s House – a short journey through Hello Kitty’s house. Many areas are interactive, and as expected, there are great photo opportunities. In the last room, you can even take a photo with Hello Kitty herself. If you’re interested in UFO catchers and competitions, you’ll find them on the third floor of Sanrio Town .
Shops & Merchandise
There are shops on every floor where you can buy a variety of Sanrio items and limited-edition merchandise from your favorite characters. The largest of all is the Entrance Shop on the third floor . There are also the Village Shop, Lady Kitty House Shop, Gudetama Shop, My Melody Shop, and the Fairy Tale Shop.
Restaurants & Cafes
There are numerous restaurants and cafes in Sanrio Puroland and everything is a little bit kawaii , as you probably imagined:
Restaurant Yakata
This European-style all-you-can-eat restaurant offers dishes such as curries, pasta, gratins, dim sum, and even plant-based vegan dishes . For dessert, there are various cakes, parfaits, and puddings to choose from.
Buffet prices are 3200 yen for adults, 1600 yen for children 6 years and older, and 1100 yen for children between 3 and 6 years old.
In addition to the delicious food, you also have the chance to meet popular Sanrio characters on the restaurant’s stage. Which of the six characters will you see on stage?
Character Food Court
On the ground floor, you’ll find the Character Food Court, with a wide selection of dishes and plenty of seating for a quick break and, of course, a bite to eat. Most dishes cost between 1,500 and 2,500 yen each . Some of the dishes offered in the food court include noodle soup, Japanese curry with Sanrio faces, kids’ menus, sweet desserts, and seasonal dishes.
Sanrio Rainbow World Restaurant
The colorful Sanrio Rainbow World food court is located on the fourth floor. Here, too, there’s a wide selection of dishes and places to sit . Dishes include pasta dishes, omurice (Japanese omelet with rice), donburi (a bowl of rice topped with meat), and desserts. You can also order drinks like bubble tea. And as you might have guessed, everything here is presented very sweetly.
Cinnamoroll Dream Café
If you’re craving something sweet, I recommend the Cinnamoroll Dream Café. The café is also located on the fourth floor and offers desserts such as muffins, cakes, and crepes, as well as sweet drinks. Some desserts are served in Sanrio-themed cups—you can take them home!
Sweet Parlor
Sweet Parlour is an ice cream parlour on the basement level (1F) that sells ice cream and drinks. Prices are around 400 yen.
3. Sanrio Puroland App
With the Sanrio Puroland app (available for Android and iOS users), you can see which shows or parades are taking place in the coming days, which characters you can meet and when, and get the latest news about the theme park. Simply download the app for free before your visit, and you’ll have all the information you need at your fingertips.
4. Meet Sanrio characters
The best thing about Sanrio Puroland, in my opinion (and my daughter’s too), is meeting the beloved Sanrio characters! At the ” Character Greeting Residence ,” you have the chance to get up close to your favorite Sanrio characters. You’ll get a great photo as a souvenir, so you’ll never forget the special day.
Here’s a quick guide on how to meet a Sanrio character , as you’ll need to make a reservation:
- First, go to the Character Greeting Residence on the first floor (1F) – marked as Strawberry Hall (ストロベリーホール) on the Sanrio Puroland map.
- As soon as you stand in front of one of the ticket machines, you’ll see a screen with Sanrio characters. There, you select the character you want to meet, indicate the number of people who would also like to meet the character, and, of course, select the time.
- After selecting, a barcode will appear on the screen . Open it on your smartphone and take a screenshot of the opened page.
- Once you have completed these steps and saved the screenshot on your smartphone , the reservation is complete!
- Now nothing stands in your way of meeting your favorite character. Don’t forget to arrive at the Character Greeting Residence at the specified time .
Please note the following information:
- You can only make one reservation per ticket machine . Once you’ve completed a reservation and want to meet another character, you’ll have to get back in line.
- It is therefore not possible to make multiple reservations at the same ticket machine.
- Unfortunately, you can’t meet a character without a screenshot of your reservation . So be sure to save it on your smartphone!
- Please arrive at the Character Greeting Residence 15 minutes before your scheduled time . If you arrive late, your ticket will be invalidated!
- All participants listed on the reservation must attend.
5. With children in Sanrio Puroland
Visiting Sanrio Puroland is a blast for the kids. . If you’re still deciding whether or not to visit, I’d definitely give it a “yes.”
Here are some tips and information for families with children:
- If you go to Sanrio Puroland on your child’s birthday , your child will receive a free birthday card and a cute Sanrio sticker set. Plus, every staff member, including the characters, will greet them and wish them a happy birthday. All you have to do is go to the information desk (3 F) and let them know it’s your child’s birthday. This also applies to adults.
- Breastfeeding and changing rooms are located at Sanrio Puroland on the first floor (1 F), next to the ” Sweet Parlor ” ice cream shop. There’s also a microwave, hot water, and other amenities available if your child still needs a bottle .
- If you forgot your diapers or formula , that’s no problem. You can also buy wipes, diapers, and even baby food at Sanrio Puroland in a pinch!
- Some rooms and hallways are difficult to access with a stroller. Therefore, please leave your stroller in the designated stroller parking area . You’ll find it right at the entrance, just past the information desk (3 F).
- You are not allowed to bring food into Sanrio Puroland . Drinks are permitted .
- If you’d rather eat outside Sanrio Puroland (since it can be difficult with children), I can suggest re-entry. This allows you to leave the theme park and come back later. All you have to do is get your ticket stamped at the entrance. Outside of Sanrio Puroland, there are many family restaurants and fast-food chains.
6. Prices and purchase tickets
You can purchase your ticket for the day directly at the ticket counter at Sanrio Puroland on the day of your visit, or you can buy it online in advance to be on the safe side . You can’t be sure whether tickets will still be available at the ticket counter, and you’ll also save yourself the wait.
Prices for Sanrio Puroland vary depending on the day of the week . Prices naturally increase on holidays and weekends. However, you can generally expect prices between 3,600 yen and 4,000 yen per adult (as of October 2025: €22-24). For children ages 3 and up, the Junior Ticket starts at 2,500 yen. Children under 3 years old enter the park free of charge.
If you want to save some money on entry, we recommend the afternoon ticket (entry from 2 p.m.)
The Puropass is a so-called Fast Pass/Express Pass , meaning an additional ticket that you can purchase. This allows you to skip the wait for certain rides and shows.
Puropass prices vary by attraction or show and range from 500 yen to 2,000 yen. You can purchase the Puropass at any of the gray-marked locations on the Sanrio Puroland map .
7. Opening hours
Opening hours also vary depending on the day . The park is usually open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but on some days it is completely closed. Therefore, I recommend checking the official website for your visit’s opening hours beforehand.
8. Getting to Sanrio Puroland
Arrival from Shinjuku Station
The first stop is Shinjuku Station. There, look for the Keiō Line (platforms 4 and 5), which goes toward Hashimoto (橋本). It’s best to take a Limited Express or Rapid train, as these are the fastest and will get you to your destination faster. After getting off at Keio-Tama-Center Station , it’s about an eight-minute walk to Sanrio Puroland. The train ride takes about 30 minutes, and a one-way ticket costs around 360 yen.
